The project “Lemiecose” was born because of the discriminatory aspects related to the theme of the menstrual cycle, always surrounded by embarrassment and mystery.
The analyses carried out revealed a lack of information and data relating to Italy, where period is only linked to the scientific aspect, excluding the perceptive and social ones. This makes it clear that it is still taboo and is not considered a relevant topic to discuss. The communication activity aims to normalize, educate, inform and clear customs using friendly language, informal communication and an evocative visual but never too explicit. The goal was to start from the female gender to get to the male one, including users of different age groups. "Lemiecose" is the most common erroneous name that Italian people use to talk about period, and it was used to distinguish the identity of the project in an ironic and contrasting way.
Graphic signs were designed from the shapes of the circle and rectangle. Symbolically associated with the cyclical nature of the phenomenon and the clarity of the treated contents. The design of visual identity aims through the Instagram page, to include users in a digital community. It was also planned to produce two information brochures to be distributed in clinics and medical offices: educational and medical one, and another more informal for entertainment.
Quantitative data is collected through weekly surveys. They are then elaborated in two graphical visualizations that fill according to the percentages, taking back the pictogram of the visual system. The first infographic is generated by two-variable surveys (YES and NO). The second infographic is generated by multiple choice questions. Thanks to the data it will be possible to visualize how embarrassing or 'normalized' are period.
